MY APPROACH

Understanding what lies beneath the patterns.

The patterns we struggle with often make sense when we understand where they came from. In counselling, we can gently explore the emotions, experiences, beliefs, and protective responses beneath them — with curiosity rather than judgement.

My approach is experiential, relational, and integrative. Rather than focusing only on changing thoughts or behaviours, we may also slow down and notice what is happening within you, creating space for deeper understanding and new ways of relating to yourself.

WHAT WE SEE ABOVE OFTEN HAS ROOTS BENEATH.

HOW I WORK

A gentle space to slow down, notice, and understand.

In our work together, I aim to create a space where you can explore your experience without needing to have everything figured out. We may slow down, notice what is happening within you, and gently make sense of the patterns and responses that have developed over time.

Curiosity

We begin by becoming curious about your experience rather than judging or trying to immediately change it. Understanding often creates space for something new to emerge.

Explore

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we may explore the emotions, needs, beliefs, and protective responses beneath recurring patterns.

Attuned

Counselling is collaborative. We pay attention to what feels meaningful and manageable for you, allowing the process to unfold at a pace that feels right.

AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH

Different ways of understanding, held together with care.

No single approach fits every person. I draw from different therapeutic perspectives while staying responsive to you, your experiences, and what emerges in our work together.

Experiential & IFS-informed

We may slow down and turn towards what is happening within you in the present moment — including emotions, bodily experiences, and different inner responses. With curiosity and compassion, we can begin to understand the parts of you that may have developed ways of protecting, coping, or keeping you safe.

Attachment & emotion focused

Our emotional patterns often develop within relationships and can continue to shape how we experience ourselves and connect with others. We may explore these patterns with care, helping you understand underlying emotions and needs and develop a more secure and compassionate relationship with yourself.

Schema-informed

Long-standing beliefs and patterns can influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, and respond to difficult situations. Together, we may become curious about where these patterns came from, how they once made sense, and whether there are new ways of responding that feel more aligned with who you are today.

THE PROCESS

Change can begin with understanding.

There is no fixed formula for counselling, and the process may unfold differently for each person. Often, however, change begins as we slow down, understand our experience more deeply, and discover new ways of relating to ourselves.

01

Noticing what is here

We begin by slowing down and becoming curious about what you are experiencing — your emotions, thoughts, bodily responses, and the patterns that may be showing up in your life.

02

Understanding with compassion

As we explore more deeply, we may begin to understand how your patterns developed and what they have been trying to do for you. What once seemed confusing can begin to make more sense.

03

Creating space for something new

With greater awareness and understanding, there can be more room for choice. Over time, you may begin to relate to yourself differently and respond to life in ways that feel more grounded and authentic.

The process is not always linear. We may move between noticing, understanding, and experimenting with new ways of being — always at a pace that feels manageable for you.

THIS MAY RESONATE IF

You may be doing well on the outside, while something inside feels harder.

You may have learned to be capable, responsible, or attuned to what others need. Yet beneath this, you might find yourself caught in patterns that leave you feeling anxious, disconnected, or never quite enough.

01

You hold yourself to very high standards and rarely feel that what you do is enough.

02

You find yourself prioritising other people’s needs while losing touch with your own.

03

You are often self-critical, even when you would never speak to someone else in the same way.

04

You understand your patterns intellectually, but still find yourself repeating them.

05

You want to feel more connected to yourself and live with greater authenticity and self-compassion.

You do not need to identify with all of these experiences for counselling to be meaningful.

WHEN YOU ARE READY

You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin.

If you are curious about what it might be like to understand yourself with more compassion, you are welcome to reach out. We can begin with a conversation and explore whether working together feels right for you.
